A windy but bright start from John O' Groats

Although we'd done photos the night before, we decided to head back 2 miles to John O'Groats from the Youth Hostel as it was the nearest place to get any breakfast.
We had some egg & bacon butties from a mobile caravan by the harbour.It was a windy morning but blowing from the East so we decide to visit Duncansby Head as we would have a tail wind from there back to Bettyhill.It was hazy but the Stacks of Duncansby were clearly visible. A lady from Chesterfield on a coach trip asked what we were doing, and gave us £1 for the appeals.

On the A836 towards Thurso...easy road.
 We headed back through John O' Groats and continued on the A836 to Thurso for lunch. It's pretty much a flat run to Thurso. We continued on that road past Dounereay Nuclear establishment, and then we stopped at the Reay shop for ice creams as it was getting very hot and sticky.
Then the hills began, several long drags along the coast.

Short climb into Castletown.
